Prof. Allan B. de Guzman, Ph.D. is a prolific writer in gerontological, education, and hospitality-related studies. To date, he has extensively published 199 articles in various ISI-listed journals. His strong commitment to the scholarship of discovery has earned him various prestigious recognitions, such as the 2007 SEAMEO-JASPER Research Award given by the Government of Canada and the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), the 2006National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) Achievement Award, the 2011Metrobank Foundation Most Outstanding Teacher Award in Higher Education, and the 2019 Metrobank Foundation Award for Continuing Excellence in Service(ACES), among others.
He received the 2014 Australian Awards Fellowship in Curriculum Leadership at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia, and the 2001 Israel MASHAV Fellowship in Curriculum Development. In2017, President Rodrigo Roa-Duterte appointed him to the Philippine Teacher Education Council (TEC). In December 2021, the Queensland University of Technology in Australia recognized him as one of the top 100 alumni fellows. He serves as one of the advisory editors of the Asia-Pacific Education Review(APER), a reviewer of various ISI-listed journals, and a member of the Journal Accreditation Committee, Commission on Higher Education (CHED). He also serves as the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) assessor. He pioneered the Thesis-by-Article style in the country. In the Journal of Scientometrics (2011), Dr. de Guzman has been identified as one of the country's most productive researchers in education and psychology.
In a recent article published in Education (2021), Dr. de Guzman was identified as the most productive researcher in Southeast Asia from 1996 to2019. In 2023, he was identified as the best scientist at the University of Santo Tomas and was ranked 64th in the country by the AD Scientific Index. He was the former Dean of the UST College of Education from 2015 to 2018. In May 2021, Taylor and Francis, USA, appointed him as co-editor of the Educational Gerontology Journal (An ISI-listed journal)from 2021 to 2025. He handles research, leadership and management, and curriculum and instruction courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels at the University of Santo Tomas.
